Hi, my name is Cheryl Jones.  I live in Oklahoma City.  I’ve always been pretty Artsy-Craftsy.  I come from  a family of painters, quilters, sewers, chefs, builders & fixers of stuff, writers, and sports enthusiasts.  They have all influenced my work.  My experience is quite diverse.  I have dabbled in quite a few different mediums before I found my passion...Glass!  With my experience in teaching porcelain doll making, painting, jewelry design, cake decorating, scrapbooking, etc.;  I believe it has given me a good understanding in the basics of composition, color and technique. I've even played with fusing and silversmithing.

 

I was first introduced to lampwork at an Arts and Craft show.  I was intrigued by the uniqueness of the glass jewelry that I saw.  My soon-to-be-friend, Tina Julich, explained what lampwork was and later taught me some of the basics of lampworking.  I got my first torch in Dec 2004, but didn’t get it set up until the spring of 2005....uncertainty about setting up a torch myself ruled.  I practiced what I had learned on it until I realized I wanted to seriously get into bead making.  In Jun 2006, I purchased a dual surface mix torch and oxygen concentrator.  I haven’t looked back since. 

 

I have gathered information from books and on web forums such as Wet Canvas and Lampwork ETC.  There is so much you can find and learn on the internet.  I've been fortunate to take classes from other artists like Andrea Guarino-Slemmons, Dustin Tabor, Michelle Waldren, Larry Brickman, Pam Wolfersberger, Trey Cornette, Loren Stump and Bronwen Heilman.  I've met and become friends with several of our local lampworkers and glass fusers.  There is so much knowledge and talent out there.   I've learned that the possibilities in glass are endless!
